Tuna Exports Near $1 Billion Threshold
In 2024, Vietnam's tuna exports surged by 17% compared to the previous year, reaching nearly $1 billion. This remarkable growth was fueled by increased global demand and favorable trade conditions. Vietnam Customs data, as reported by the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), revealed that frozen tuna, particularly loins, constituted a significant portion of this growth. While canned tuna exports also saw a rise, other processed tuna products experienced a notable year-end surge. Key markets like the EU and Canada showed positive trends, although exports to Japan and Israel declined. Despite these challenges, tuna remains a crucial component of Vietnam's seafood export sector, accounting for nearly 10% of total turnover. To ensure continued success in 2025, VASEP recommends streamlining administrative procedures, particularly those related to S/C and C/C certificate issuance, and implementing policies that encourage sustainable fishing practices.
