Peru's 2024 Mango Export Sees Decline in Volume and Value
Peru's mango production in 2024 significantly exceeded demand, leading to a drop in fruit prices and impacting small and medium-sized producers. The oversupply resulted from a water crisis that accelerated fruit development, leading to an early harvest and smaller mangoes unsuitable for export. The domestic market became saturated, and the early Piura season overlapped with Lambayeque and Mexico's production, further depressing prices. Fresh mango exports totaled 333,905 tons, valued at US$194.9 million, a 4% decrease in volume and a 27% decrease in value compared to the previous year. Despite an increase in the average price per kilogram, the overall export value declined. The United States and the Netherlands remained the primary destinations for Peruvian mangoes.
