Global Farmed Shrimp Production to Reach 6 Million Tons in 2025

Ecuador leads in global shrimp production. Analyst Gorjan Nikolik reports that global farmed shrimp supply growth is slowing but will remain positive in 2025, despite record low prices. Ecuador remains the largest producer, with 3% growth expected in 2025. Mexico's shrimp farming industry is stable, exceeding 200,000 tons in 2023 and projecting a 4% increase in 2025. While smaller, Brazil's shrimp industry has grown significantly, expected to exceed 160,000 tons in 2025. India's shrimp production is predicted to recover and increase by 2% in 2025. In Vietnam, farmed shrimp production is expected to increase by 4% in 2025, reaching over 1.29 million tons. Indonesia's production is forecast to increase by 3% in 2025, despite heavy reliance on the US market and competition from Ecuador and India. Across Asia, growth is stagnant, with many farmers considering switching to black tiger shrimp due to low prices for whiteleg shrimp.
